New York, NY (PRWEB) May 20, 2008
SHIZUKA new york Spa is run by master aesthetician Shizuka Bernstein and offers the latest trend in skin care, the Geisha Facial. The new facial treatment is made from Nightingale droppings and has been coined the Bird Poop Facial by fans and curious spectators.
This latest skin care innovation is the secret to true Geisha beauty. The Geisha “Bird Poop” Facial “is made with all natural ingredients, including Japanese Rice Bran to brighten and soften skin complexion using natural enzymes,” explains Bernstein. “The most important ingredient is Uguisu no Fun, or powdered Nightingale Droppings, which is an old secret ingredient of the traditional kabuki actors and Geisha used to remove makeup.”
The Geisha Facial is named after the Geisha who have always been known for their clear porcelain, unblemished complexion. This beautiful appearance was later found to cause chronic skin problems because of the zinc in their facial powder. Geisha found a unique remedy when they discovered that the Uguisu no Fun could not only be used to remove makeup but also to brighten, heal and retexturize their skin.
“At SHIZUKA new york, the Geisha cosmetic secret is artfully revitalized for modern skin care treatment,” says Bernstein. “The Uguisu no Fun is sanitized through exposure to ultraviolet light to kill bacteria before being finely milled into powder and is safe to use on the skin. The Japanese rice bran enhances the exfoliating ability and skin lightening properties. The Geisha Facial Treatment also includes skin cleansing and light extraction using the all-natural SHIZUKA new york Skincare System. The skin care treatment is completed with a hydrating camelia oil massage and a refreshing antioxidant Green Tea Collagen Mask.”
Bernstein’s modernization of the Geisha Facial maintains the beautification rituals of the Geisha and makes them accessible to all spa visitors. To celebrate a successful skin care treatment, all sessions end with an offering of gourmet Japanese teas and cookies in the Tranquility Lounge.
The Midtown Spa, located at 7 W 51st Street, has been featured in Allure Magazine, New York Magazine, Marie Claire, Shape, Essence, OK!, Women’s Wear Daily, Time Out, Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Baila, and Madame Figaro Japan. The spa has also been featured on Good Day New York, Fox News, CNBC and the Style Network.
SHIZUKA offers other signature facials, including the Micro Facial, Facial with LED, Lifting Facial, Lightening Facial and Photo Facial. Chemical Peels and Microdermabrasion are also available. To complement the facial treatments, the spa also offers the latest in medical spa treatments, including Botox, Juvederm and Restylane.

Mr. Beams Announces the “Show Us Your Darkest Places” Contest

Elyria, Ohio (PRWEB) May 27, 2008
Mr. Beams has launched seven portable home light fixtures that produce bright light without wires. For the first time, consumers can adequately light any dark space in and around their homes without extensive installation or without running electrical wires.
To celebrate the launch of its seven new products, Mr. Beams announces the “Show Us Your Darkest Places” contest. Starting in June, 2008 Mr. Beams will choose three spaces submitted to the “Show Us Your Darkest Places” contest and will send a bright Mr. Beams motion activated light fixture to perfectly illuminate these darkest areas. To enter, go to Mr. Beams website and send pictures of your darkest places in and around your home along with a brief story of why you need to light the area. Mr. Beams will post before and after photos on it’s website following the contest.
Mr. Beams has taken the benefits of light-emitting diodes (LED’s) one step further. All of the Mr. Beams fixtures are battery operated and can be attached anywhere in under five minutes without an electrician. Most Mr. Beams’ fixtures have an annual operating cost under four dollars because all of the fixtures utilize motion sensor activation to conserve battery life. When motion is detected, the light turns on; when the activation-time setting has expired, the light will turn off. The Mr.Beams product line includes the weatherproof Spotlight and Stair Light, and indoor Closet Light, Sconce and Mini Spotlight.
“Why wait for an electrician when Mr. Beams can serve you light anywhere?” asks company President, David Levine. “Anyone can attach our Mr. Beams lights in minutes and light up areas where darkness is a problem. Closets, backyards, hallways, stairways, basements, attics, and decks no longer need to be dark and dangerous. Our Spotlight, Stair Light, Closet Light and others are perfect for lighting many of the darkest spaces.”
LED’s have numerous favorable advantages over conventional incandescent light bulbs. LED’s do not have a filament that will burn out, so they can last up to 50,000 hours or more. There no moveable parts, so LED’s are incredibly durable when dropped. The main advantage of LED’s are they are energy efficient and use 80-90% less energy when producing the same amount of light as an incandescent bulb. This efficiency allows Mr. Beams to use batteries and still get years of use between battery replacements.
About Mr. Beams:
Mr. Beams invents, designs and manufactures the most consumer-friendly battery-powered LED-based lighting. Mr. Beams products can be attached anywhere and activate with motion. Mr. Beams’ mission is to light all dark places in the home with bright, energy efficient light to ensure safety, security, and cost savings while being earth-friendly. Skincare and Cosmetic Surgery: Men Begin to Embrace Anti-Aging Skin Care
Sacramento, CA (PRWEB) May 28, 2008
Women aren’t the only ones turning to cosmetic procedures for the occasional nip and tuck. In the US alone, the men’s grooming market is worth $ 3.5 billion — that’s a lot of money spent on vitamins, supplements, diets, exercise, skincare products, and of course, cosmetic surgery. Skincare-News.com’s latest article, “Manning Up to Cosmetic Surgery,” looks at the most common procedures sought out by men for their anti-aging benefits.
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=584
The nose knows
Clearly, some men just aren’t satisfied with their noses. According to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), 85,000 nose reshaping surgeries were performed on men in 2006 and the price doesn’t come cheap. Rhinoplasty costs, on average, $ 4,000 and unfortunately, most nose jobs are not covered by health insurance. During surgery, the cartilage and bones of the nose are reshaped and nostrils widened or narrowed to achieve the desired appearance. Open rhinoplasty involves the surgeon making an incision across the skin between the nostrils, while the closed technique does not require an incision on the external tissues and heals quicker. In total, the procedure can take anywhere from one to two hours.
Recovery can take up to several weeks and is very dependent upon each individual. Because the skin of the nose will be sensitive to sunlight, wearing sunscreen is essential. Finally, use cold compresses to reduce swelling around the eye area.
Eye do
Many men have opened their eyes to eyelid surgery, known as blepharoplasty and are realizing that treating under-eye bags, puffy eyelids, or droopy lower lids can make a positive difference in appearance. In 2006, ASPS reported that 37,000 men requested eyelid surgeries and ponied up an average of $ 3,000. The procedure involves creating carefully hidden incisions, which allow adjustment of the surrounding tissue through removing excess skin, redistributing fat, or tightening muscles and tissue. The result should be eyes that appear wider, more alert and youthful, rejuvenating the appearance and shaving years off the face.
Be prepared to miss about ten days of work, although puffiness around the eyes may persist for a few months after the surgery. For symptoms like bruising, irritation or dry eyes, try cold compresses and a gentle, hydrating eye cream to relieve discomfort. Also, keep eye drops on hand to relieve dryness.
Love the lipo
For many men, liposuction is becoming a popular surgical procedure: approximately 35,000 liposuction surgeries were performed on men in 2006. Costing anywhere from $ 3,000 – $ 7,500 per treatment, this procedure is costly for men because men’s adipose fat tissue is different than women’s; it’s tough, fibrous, and difficult to remove. In addition, men frequently request liposuction in naturally fibrous areas, such as the chest, love handles or abdomen. During the procedure, an incision is made and a medicinal saline solution injected in the desired area. Then, suction is used to remove unwanted fat and the treated area reshaped.
Patients may return to normal activities after one or two weeks, although numbness, swelling, pain, and bruising may persist for three months and optimal results of the surgery will not be seen for approximately three months. Patients are advised to eat a healthy diet and get regular exercise in order to maintain newly contoured figures.
A hair affair
Men sometimes have trouble keeping their hair where they want it. No wonder 20,000 men asked for hair transplant surgeries in 2006. Depending on the extent of hair loss and how many grafts are required, this procedure can cost anywhere from $ 4,000 to $ 36,000, making it one of the most costly of all elective surgeries. The relatively new technique involves surgically removing hair follicles from other areas of the body and implanting them into dead hair follicles with small bore needles or blades. Hair transplants take place over a number of sessions and surgeons must carefully transplant the hair follicles at precise angles to imitate natural hair growth. The transplanted hair falls out within several weeks when new hair growth begins.
Wounds heal in seven to ten days and fortunately, the side effects are minor: mild pain, swelling, and the formation of scabs. Many men may be able to return to work the next day, however; its crucial to keep the new hair drafts moist to diminish the amount of crusting and encourage rapid hair growth. Patients are permitted to gently wash their hair two days post-surgery.
From nose reshaping to liposuction, men are relying on cosmetic surgery more than ever before to increase their sense of well-being and quality of life. Before embarking on any surgery, consider all options, study risks and rewards of each procedure and be prepared for significant recovery time.

LED Light Therapy Treats Aging and More
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=569
Let the light shine: LED light, that is! LEDs, or light-emitting diodes, use near-infrared light which penetrates and is absorbed by skin. While lasers produce heat, LEDs only produce light, which the skin turns into energy. This light energy then affects the mitochondria, responsible for powering cells. Plus, light allows cells to carry out chemical activities more quickly. Get to know this exciting treatment and what it can do for the skin.
Vitamin B
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=564
Pluck any beauty product off the shelf and chances are that vitamin B plays at least a small role in the list of ingredients. Topical vitamin B and its derivatives are used in anti-aging products to retain moisture and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Niacinamide is used in skin lightening creams to decrease hyperpigmentation. Moisturizers containing niacin and pantothenic acid guarantee that the skin is being hydrated with the most effective ingredients. Many acne treatments use B5 to combat oil and blemishes. According to the British Journal of Dermatology, topical creams with B12 improve eczema and soothe inflammation.
Idebenol and Idebenone
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=563
Used to treat Alzheimer’s disease, depression and stroke, idebenone only recently entered the skin care market with a big, exciting bang; dermatologists and patients alike anticipated its arrival. Idebenol, a similar ingredient, has also enjoyed surging popularity. And it isn’t merely hype: there’s research to suggest both idebenone and idebenol are effective anti-aging ingredients. For one, idebenol and idebenone guard skin against free radical damage. It’s free radicals, or environmental factors, including chemicals, pollutants and cigarette smoke, that damage skin and cause signs of aging, such as wrinkles, dryness and age spots.
Stretch Marks
http://www.skincare-news.com/articles.php?ArtID=561
Although eliminating stretch marks entirely is time consuming and often, not possible, there are numerous options available to aid in reducing their appearance on the skin. While medical procedures such as laser removal, dermabrasion or chemical peels come closest to eliminating almost all traces of stretch marks, these processes are often quite expensive and, are not suitable for all skin types. For a less expensive, more user friendly option, choose an over-the-counter lotion, cream or gel that contains ingredients known to aid in refining the appearance and texture of stretch marks. A few ingredients to look for are: alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), palmitoyl oligopeptide, glucosamine HCL, shea butter, cocoa butter, almond oil and vitamin E.
