Benefits of Light Therapy
Thomas Leroy asked:
Light therapy is becoming the most popular skin care treatment, and it seems everyone wants to try it. Why this sudden eagerness ? Because of the many skin concerns it can improve, naturally, without pain or side effects. Results amazes scientists and users who can now own their personal light therapy device that employs the same technology spas and dermatologists are equiped with : Light Emitting Diodes(LED).
If other forms of light therapy are actually used, LED light therapy is associated to skin care. There are mainly two colors associated to light therapy for the skin, because there are principally two skin issues people want to improve : acne and aging. Red light therapy is used for skin healing, thus it is used for both skin concerns. For acne purpose it will help to diminish acne scars for example. If used for anti aging, it will regenerate skin cells. Blue light therapy is used for acne only, the blue light penetrates the skin and kills the P. acne bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes). Acne starts to disappear, and light treatments also prevent future breakouts.
Here are several light therapy benefits :
Minimizes fine lines and wrinkles like crow’s feet
increases collagen and elastin, resulting in a firmer skin
enhances circulation, this brings more nutritional elements resulting in a younger and smoother skin
Heals blemishes
Improves skin tone
heals sun-damaged skin
Tights pore size
Reduces redness (inflammation caused by acne)
Improves rosacea
minimizes brown age spots
Balances sebum production
Light therapy is also used, in another form than LEDs such as daylight spectrum, for stress relief, pain relief, affective disorders, mood balancing and more. In the future, light therapy may be used to treat more medical, cosmeceutical, psychological and every day life disorders.

LED Light Therapy for Skincare
Thomas Leroy asked:
Light Therapy is proven to deal with many troubles, effectively, from pain relief to affective disorders. It is in the skin care field that light therapy is the most popular. All the issues are not treated with the same technology and for skincare purpose, this is Light Emitting Diodes that are used. Already used in spas and skin professionals, light therapy can now be found in portable devices for personal use. In this article you will learn what skin troubles can be treated with light therapy.
Light Therapy is also named photorejuvenation. The 2 skin conditions that LED light therapy is used for are principally aging and acne. These concerns are not the same and need specific treatments.
Acne should be first addressed with blue light therapy. The treatment also prevent future breakouts. The acne bacteria (Propionibacterium acnes) is killed, and acne starts to vanish. Acne can then be treated with red light therapy. The red light is the renewing light and will reduce acne inflammation and also balances sebum and oil production.
The red light is really the healing light and that is the reason it is applied as an anti aging treatment too. It increases collagen production, the protein responsible for your skin firmness and elasticity. It also increases vascularity by creating new capillaries. With more circulation more blood is flowing to your tissues and of course nutrients carried by the blood helps to repair your skin.
Light therapy minimizes fine lines and wrinkles but there are more benefits. It helps to minimize age spots and skin discoloration. As we said earlier other concerns can be treated with light therapy, featuring different technology. More and more people are turning towards these all natural, safe and painless treatments.

Acne Light Therapy – your Questions Answered
John Hacking asked:
What causes acne?
Acne develops when the sebaceous glands in a person’s skin make extra oil (sebum), in response to androgens. This oil combines with cells that line the walls of these glands and clogs the skin pores. Normal skin bacteria colonise the glands and the body’s response to these bacteria causes the inflammation or the redness of the skin that we associate with acne.
One of the key bacteria responsible for the inflammation is Propionibacterium acnes or P.acnes. P.acnes produces natural chemicals called poryphyrins, which are sensitive to light at different wavelengths. If you stimulate these chemicals then they will neutralise the bacteria.
With no bacteria present your inflammation will subside.
Meical scientists have developed a light that can stimulate these chemicals eradicating the bacteria that causes the redness or inflammation of acne. We’ve called it Omnilux Blue.
Your doctor may have spoken to you about this treatment already, but this leaflet is designed to answer some of the questions that you have regarding the treatment.
What is Omnilux Blue?
Omnilux Blue is a light source that is specially tuned to activate natural chemicals found in the bacteria that causes the redness in acne. When stimulated these chemicals destroy the bacteria. The light also stimulates cells in your body that help with the healing process. The light is made up of Light Emitting Diodes or LED’s.
How safe is the treatment?
The light is really safe and harmless to your skin. The light doesn’t generate any heat like a laser. The light works naturally with your body to promote the healing response. You will, however, need to wear special goggles to protect your eyes from the light.
What results can I expect from a series of treatments?
Optimum results will be seen between 4-8 weeks after treatment. The light stimulates natural processes that go on after the treatment has stopped. In studies subjects have seen complete clearance of their lesions, however on average you should expect a 70% clearance of lesions.
Are there any side effects from the treatments?
No. There have been no reported adverse side effects like redness or irritation from the treatment. The light won’t damage your skin and because there is no heat involved there’s no pain.
What actually happens during the treatment and is it painful?
During the treatment you can sit up or lie down. You’ll have to remove any make-up or sunblock before the treatment and you’ll be asked to wear some safety goggles. The light will be positioned close to your face. The treatment lasts 20 minutes. After that you’re free to go home. The treatment course is usually 8 light treatments. Dependent upon your type of acne your doctor may suggest you use a face wash and gel from the Lite-Blue range of products, this will help with the treatment.
